According to the Daily Mirror, Live Music and AEG are in a bidding war to get one single David Bowie gig in London. Apparently Bowie has no interest. Contactmusic.com reported the following: “Bosses at promoters Live Nation have tabled a multi-million dollar bid for the 66-year-old icon to play a huge concert at London’s Olympic Park next year (14). Now their rivals at Aeg are reportedly considering a similar offer for the British star to headline at London’s Hyde Park, according to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper. However, a spokesman for the star has poured cold water on the rumour, telling Nme.com, “There are currently no plans for any live dates.”
It reminds me a little of all the plans to get the Beatles to reunite and not the worst idea in the world for Bowie. One night only, millions of bucks, movie, DVD, album. But the question is, which Bowie are you gonna get? Who wants all the Reality and Heathen stuff? But then again, who is gonna tell him not play it. Indeed, who wants all the The Next Day stuff? I’ll take “I’d rather Be High” and ONE OTHER and other than that, jeep from Hunky Dory to Let’s Dance. And no more.
Also, maybe it would be worth a trip to the UK for the show, though if I won’t go to Toronto, what makes me think I’d go to London? Also, the last coupla times I’ve seen Bowie he hasn’t been that great. Really, I’d split him down the middle, half the time great and the other half the time not so great. His “Glass Spiders” 1987 gig (I caught it at Giants Stadium) was terrible. Like the worst.
Still, millions upon millions? I think he should do it and then tour behind it.
