Glam Rock.  Just the name of the genre conjures up drag queens and glitter but that’s not it at all.  Bowie, Bolan and the rest of the spandex boys brought a new dimension to rock and roll that paved the way for so many artists its hard to trace its offshoots.

Though some found bands  such as the New York Dolls too weird- some found them to be the saving grace in a cock rock world. Oh Yes We Can Love: The History Of Glam Rock, really has some interesting participants.  I wouldn’t have considered Blondie to be glam, but I suppose Debbie Harry is glamorous right?

This is a FIVE CD set..five?  That’s a ton of music for a short lived genre. Although its lifespan varies most set it as mid seventies and done by 1980.  The platform shoes and glittery garb set the stage for some pretty rad music.

The press blurb  explains: “It isn’t just Bowie, Bolan and Gary Glitter – it explores a complete myriad of mutations from early origins in Chuck Berry and Little Richard to the contemporary evolution in The Darkness and Foxy Shazam, and everything in between.

“When Marc Bolan appeared on Top of the Pops in 1971, daubed in glitter, it permitted a generation of teenyboppers to begin playing with the idea of androgyny. It marked the dawning of a new era, a rejection of what had gone before.

“Arguably reaching its zenith in 1973 when the likes of Slade, Sweet and Suzi Quatro all had a run of chart-topping singles, the death-knell was eventually sounded by the rise of punk. Yet throughout the 80s and 90s and into the new millennium, bands have often drawn liberally from the lexicon of glam.”

There are all the typical add ons with this package, photos, booklets, written accounts and FIVE FREAKIN CD’s.  Id show you the track listing but its huge. Instead click here  and pay up the $87 clams, this is worthy.   You have time to save up- it’s not available until November 5th.
