I have never heard of this band, but this is hardly surprising: As I Lay Dying is a Christian metal group, a strange genre at the end of the genre spectrum, or a complete oxymoron if you want my opinion. The lead singer, Tim Lambesis, is in the news for a very strange and horrific reason: he was arrested on Tuesday near San Diego, on charges that he tried to hire somebody to kill his estranged wife!! The Christian moron got caught when he approached an undercover cop about the contract killing. No more details were released yet as there is, of course, an investigation going on.
This story is so crazy, and at the same time so explainable… these people are confused, on one hand they are Christians, so they are worshipping God, on the other hand they are metal, so they are worshipping Satan? So tricky and so disorienting, isn’t it? Still this is not a reason to kill your ex-wife. The band posted the following statement:
‘To our fans,
As we post this, the legal process is taking its course and we have no more information than you do. There are many unanswered questions, and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you informed as best we can.
Our thoughts right now are with Tim, his family, and with everyone else affected by this terrible situation – and with our fans, whom we love and draw strength from.
Thank you for understanding, and as always, for your support of As I Lay Dying.
– Jordan, Nick, Phil, and Josh’
I ‘like’ how they put their buddy Tim and his family in the same sentence as people ‘affected by this terrible situation’,… kind of delusional because there is no doubt he wanted his wife dead. May be this is the Christian way?
To be fair, the band had distanced themselves from religion, declaring in January, ‘Religion has some influence on the things that we write about just like all of our life experiences do but as a band, we want to be judged on the music rather than what our personal beliefs are’. So why did they recently post this ‘Mosh calls for the Lord’ video on Youtube showing them scare us with ‘crowd surf for the virgin birth’ among other nonsense?
Better judge them for their music indeed, but it will certainly be very difficult for the fans to ignore all the rest.
