Hel Does SNL: The Good Ol' Days, The Clash

No new SNL this week and that's ok with me. Justin Timberlake kicked major ass and with that success the team of the show needs a break to figure out how to do it again.  Don't hold your breath, their next live one is April 6th with Phoenix.  I mean, how long ago was "Liztomania" anyway?

Venture back with me to season 8 episode 3, 1982.  Ronnie Howard, hosts the fantastic Clash and well I can tell you that I sat on the edge of my seat this entire episode with anticipation of seeing the band perform.  This was October 9th to be exact and with Opie  as host it was all I could do to survive the lame sketches (I was tired- gimme a break) to get to this gem right here.

Mick Jones in that idiotic jumpsuit, Paul…being Paul and no Topper.. instead a Terry Chimes/Tory Grimes fill in of a fella…and Joe.  Joe in freshly shaved Mohawk looking so fresh faced that its hard to think such power could come from mug even though he sneers up at the crowd.

This video is all I could find to offer up as visual reference to the event. Unfortunately it is cut up with interview bits that do nothing at all but rip my heart out and throw it in the garbage disposal.  The guys played "Should I Stay or Should I Go" as the fist number and this slowed down 'Straight To Hell" as their closer.

Look at Joes guitar "Ignore Alien Orders', amazing isn't it. The camera angles a wonderful the silly dance moves are awkward in an endearing way and Joes arms are glory and… I miss The Clash.

Ya know, people may say I am stuck in the past when it comes to music that I long for the punk days too long or hold too loyal to these bands and other of the era.  I say give me something that comes near to this and I'll consider it.  Theres simply nothing as wonderful as The Clash and I doubt there ever will be.
