Blame It On Thunder: The End Of Bob Seger Live?

Well my loves, Bob Seger could well be on his way to retirement. rocknyc’s favorite ramblin’ travelin’ man is feeling his age, and although his glorious fans are willing to rally him to saint hood, Mr Seger sees limitations in his live shows.

"I'm definitely nearing the end," says Seger from his studio in southern Michigan. "I can't see myself doing this when I'm 70 and I'm going to be 68 in May. I've had a wonderful, wonderful run and my audiences have just kept coming and it's really nice but all good things have come to an end. … Of course if the (new) album takes off – in this day and age, I haven't got a clue – but if does, then we might tour another year, we'll see."

2015 will be the 5th decade of his musical career.  50 years at the same job, go figure.  And with a fan base stronger than Kim Jong Un's army I doubt they will allow a peaceful retirement.  They’ll duct tape that fella to a chair before they allow him to quit.  I can understand fandom but I can’t understand psychotic fanaticism.

The good news for his fans is that he is not done recording.  That’s pretty legit to promise new material and respect that your showmanship may be weakend just by age alone.

This leads me to a new dilemma.  I honestly respect his acknowledgement of ‘past prime’.  So many artists will trudge themselves up on a stage a shell of their former greatness that for Seger to say 70 is the cap, is wonderful.  We all have seen the sad state of legends such as Sinatra  looking a hot mess and trying to rally on as if age hasn’t crept up on them.  Im not even big on bands such as The Stones or Who for not heading off into the meadows and putting on mega shows on Geritol.  Nope, Seger has class, more than some of his minions that’s for sure.

Bob is currently on tour now so catch him while you can
