Don't you get tired about writing about The Clash?"
A very sweet man asked that of me just the other day. The answer is simple.
No.
In search of something, anything, to get the blood pumping again, the Clash is where I turn. It's the sure thing wont fail good time sound, no matter what.
Bummed out? Try "I'm not Down'
Feelin sexy "Lovers Rock"
Feeling Rebelious "White Man"
There is a Clash song for every moment, every emotion and every everything and I have yet to find a band that comes near them.
I mean, lets get this straight, I do like other bands. Lots of them, But for longevity?Hands down The Clash, and that's that and its a million years later and Joe is dead and Mick is … what the hell? Iis Mick and is Topper alive? and Paul… yeah.
So lets' see we have covered the album London Calling. Ive done rants on Joe as a rock God. I have shaken with awe in words of just about everything Strummer says. Got Rude Boy for Valentines Day best gift OF ALL TIME and wrote about it and now…
How about another visual joy
Westway To The World. Directed by none other than Don Letts. Who's he? The crazy dread lock man in Big Audio Dynamite (I simplified it there hes actually a brilliant director and musician BUT he does have some mad dreads just the same)
Westway released in 2000 is a really quality documentary about the Clash with breathtaking footage and great interview spots. Just seeing Joe gets me entranced every time. The guy was brilliant and all your dime a dozen bands cant hold a candle to his intelligence ever. You can go see a show or band that were 'amazing' but nothing is as amazing as Joe Strummer.
The bonus features are great videos amazing live stuff and just a mindless fun time travel event. Clash on Broadway 1982. 17 shows to compensate for 7 shows that were oversold would that happen now?
Not in a million years.
Pay homage to 'the only band that matters'
.
Find it watch it study it.. watch old interviews and you'll clearly see how bands like Green Day and Blink 182 blatantly rip off their style if not their exact words.
Hell, if not just watch to see where Joe and Paul describe the difficulty in trying to light a car on fire during the race riots in London. Hilarious.
Fantastic stuff
