– Hells Bells – AC/DC – From the death knoll that opens it to the blues breaker lick that follows, all the way through the end of the song, this does two things at the same time, it toughens out AC/DC even in the midst of intense loss, and connects the extremeness of power pleasure and power sorrow: a mythic “you’re only young once but you’re gonna die” – A+

– Coldest Kind Of Heart – Twin Dangers – It’s like a female revisionism wee small hours, and therefore great – A-
– People Want To Hear About Love – Neil Young And Promise Of the Real – One, he is right, two, the song is gorgeous, three, the lyrics are terrible – A-
– Lemme Know – Vince Staples – With Jhene Aiko, who sounds very good, and more words from the frontline – A-
– You Want A Battle (Here’s A War) – Bullet For My Valentine – This begins with a huge bang but goes nowhere – C-
– Stretch Of The Highway – James Taylor – The most easy going song by the “Two Lane Blacktop” star finds him travelling – A-
– For You – Dan Svizeny – His voice is buried in reverb but the melody comes through in the end -another goodie off a very peculiar album – B+
– No Shadows – Dan Svizeny – The best song off White Caps is a mutated soul song – A-
– Grab The Next Train – Marshall Crenshaw – I love this bluesy downer – A
