– Girls Talk – Dave Edmunds – there is no finer expression of Edmund’s genius than the way he manipulates costello nightmare relationship into a verse chorus verse rock and roll Rockpile jumped up pop song.. wait for the instrumental break… short but so strong…
– Dirty Deeds Done Cheap – AC/DC – It’s not true that all AC/DC songs sound exactly alike, some are better than others, and the chorus of this one is a mauling animal – A
– Portions For Foxes – If people ask you why you aren’t in the Jenny Lewis camp, tell them it’s because you respect the “I’m just bad news” hook here to pretend she can still write them as well – A
– JuJu Man – Dave Edmunds – I sure hope the cars show em still together next year, man – A
– Return To Sender – Dave Edmunds – Always great with a cover song, Dave completely misses the sexiness and maybe the vulnerability, but he makes up for it with a sureness of touch and a careening vocal that is all flow – B+
– Girls Talk – Elvis Costello – The real difference is in the coda, “You wanna know what I heard? You wanna know what I heard? You wanna know where?” – A
– I Like New (featuring Young YG) – Chanel west Coast – I’ve met and she is for real, this is as fresh and smart as beats can get, a fine track off her new Waves which I’m still coming to terms with – B+
– I’m In Love With A Monster – Fifth Harmony – I’m not convinced either, so here is one where the American Iol losers earn their keeper -nice little mover – B+
– Church – Gary Clark Jr – I guest this should end the Jimi Hendrix comparisons once and for all – D+
– Who Am I? Back To The Future Mix – Benny benassi – This guy always sounds like he just came out of 1985 -a synth double plus – B
