– Candidate – Johnny Marr – With his first solo album, he had at least a handful of ace songs to go along with his guitar playing and what this boring piece of UK rock proves is… now he doesn’t – C
– Sonreo – The Velvet Teen – A moody opener, doesn’t work as well as it does later on – C+
– Money Over Love – Bilal – This might be the song of the week, this is the sort of song that makes even more sense of Kendrick Lamar, guesting here,, he spits out his verse like car going over a cliff – A
– Something’s Gonna Happen – Marshall Crenshaw – This sounds deeper and less poppy than the version we know but guess what? It was a demo recorded even before Marshall met Alan Betrock – A
– Monsanto Years – Neil Young and Promise Of the Real – If the complaint is that Promise Of The Real isn’t Cray Horse, you’re right they’re not. but this meets somewhere between acoustic and electric Neil and it sounds great – B+
– The Valley – Miguel – Dirty minded sex tapes – A-
– Norf Norf – Vince Staples – This is gonna be huge for him, a great song -the heart of rap is dark as a berry – A
– Gabby – The Internet – This is the strange and silky one with Janelle Monae – A-
– Book Of Sculls – Goblin Rebirth – Dramatic as you can get, this doesn’t have the facetiousness of master prog, but it has the temperament – B
– Ghosttown – Madonna – It seems to me that if rebel Heart doesn’t break pop it has no longer much to do with Madonna and more to do with the fickle hand of fashion – A
