– Jabberywocky – Panda Bear – Since I am such a huge fan of the Animal Collective alumni I was expecting big things from this new EP and I got it, this is a salt shaker of a song, a lovely strange half beat with semi-soaring vocals -I mean they sound like they should soar and decide not to – A-
– No More – Elvis Presley – Here is the middle ground mainstream genius of Elvis: a sort of European overblown romanticism – A+
– Stand By Your Man – Tammy Wynette – The most telling line, “after all he’s just a man”, seems to be at the heart of every great marriage – A+
– Why Do Fools Fall In Love – Frankie Lymon And The Teenagers – Questions without answers – A+
– Boyz-N-The-Hood – Eazy E And Ice Cube – Ice Cube wrote it, Dre put down the beats and if it sounds a little old, well, it is a little old – B+
– We’ve Got Love – Babyface – Silly love song, and a good soulful one – B+
– Flashlight – Parliament – This sounds like it was scratched before Dre got his hands on it -all skipped beat and trill horns – A
– The Joke Explained – Wilco – This sounds like the way Americana would sound if it actually existed – B+
– Back In Black – AC/DC – And we all know why they’re in black but it is like a life preserver of sound, it bashes and fights through because it has no option in the matter – A-
– Jabberwocky – Clive Owen – I wonder if there is a right way to recite it? This sure won’t do, way too dramatic – C+
