1. Suspended Sentence – John Cooper Clarke – Spoken word goes punk from way way way back, and this is one of JCC’s masterpieces before he jumped off the deep end, an ode to capital punishment and the inevitable end result: “swinging Britain don’t put me on, they’re gonna bring back the rope for everyone” – A
2. Right Here – Tricky, Oh Land – This is in fact pretty excellent, the antecedent for the FKA twig’s of the world walks on a bass lick – A
3. Tessellate – alt j – From the first album, maybe I’m warming up to these guys – B
4. Travis County Live – Gary Clarke Jr – An amazing lick but isn’t it about time for some new product? – B+
5. Jealous (I Ain’t With It) – Chromeo – Classic disco bumper, like Daryl Hall without the falsetto – A-
6. Fault Lines – An ultimate LA track – A
7. Wasting All Those Tears – Cassadee Pope – Ghastly country pop from The Voice winner – C-
8. One Of These Nights – The Eagles – The biggest complaint against these guys at this point in their career is… they aren’t the Byrds. Which is hard to deny of course, but this song is a masterpiece not least because of Don Felder’s solo – A+
9. Evidently Chickentown – John Cooper Clarke – Stands up so well because it is as true in 2014 as in 1979 – A+
10. Reflections – Misterwives – Mandy Lee goes for the big one and hits it more or less – B+
