– Till We Start To Kiss (Live) – Kat Edmonson – The best moment of her Le Poisson Rouge gig, is a soft samba of sauciness and Kat performs it with a quiet, slightly dizzy sensuality that has her whispering by the end – A
Title (Live) – The only time Friday night she managed to rethink a song in the slightest and a wonderful singalong for young girls despite the “naked in your bed” and “kiss my ass goodbye” because in the end, it sets the limits of sex and ties them to romance – A
– Lush Life (Live) – Queen Esther – A Capella version, she needs to record this right now – A
– Hold My Tongue (Live) – Sheppard – “Let’s have some fun” George says, and this rip roaring, super smart opening to their set cuts the recorded version – A
– Geronimo – Sheppard – A huge hit for the band, like a game changer and an addictive smasherino with a big chorus – B+
– You’re Still The One – Shania Twain – Sweet hit, true love etc, very big chorus, it’s a shame she isn’t with Lange any more – B+
– Little Tease – The Weeklings – Glen Burtnik, aka Lefty, gets his Rutles on with this country rockabilly hooper sho wopping like Ringo should be singing the lead – B+
– Suicide By Cop – Heems – Haunting sample and rat a tat drums, takes us back to the 1990s in a story of a bad life going worse… excellent song – A-
– Wolves – Kanye West – This started minor in my books, but it has grown into a force… West, what he does better than any one, is use other performers for what he needs them. Here, he gets Sia perfect: her howling is perfect – A-
– Black Lake – Bjork – I am not sure how thrilled I am for the Bjork show. Yes, if I hadn’t scored a ticket I’d have gone to stubhub but I still think it may drag in ways Biophilia at Roseland (here) didn’t come close to. However, I am certain this heartbreaker won’t drag at all: “I’m drowned in sorrows. no hope in sight of ever recover, eternal pain and horrors” Maybe heartbreaker isn’t quite strong enough a word – A
