1 – My Heart Races On – Lil Wayne – A terrific central part of the puzzle from Weezy’s new album FWA, or do I mean mixtape?. His second one this year and here is the keeper, a self portrait so sweet it bleeds all over the hook by… who he? Jake Trouth… the best line either the one where the devil exchanges his soul or the one where he turns back to see what second place looks like – A-
2 – Ross And Rachel – Jake Troth – Ahhhh, here you go. His ode to the Friends friends, earworm pop stuff, less soulful than Charlie Puth – B
3 – Cool For The Summer – Demi Lovato – I went from not liking it to liking it to where I am, ready to anoint the pop blast a top summer song for 2015 – A-
4 – Stairway To Heaven – Heart – This is the Kennedy Center version that had Robert Plant in tears and not tears of boredom which you might expect. That’s Jason Bonham resisting the urge on drums – C
5 – Death Is Not The End – A matter of factly ode to life everlasting – B+
6 – Let’s Stick Together – Bob Dylan – Sure all he does is Dylan it up, but that harp in the intro is worth the price of admission alone – B+
7 – Ninety Miles An Hour (Down A Dead End Street) – Bob Dylan – Love the way he says “warning” on this classic take – A-
8 – Shenandoah – Bob Dylan – This is just plain luck, it has to be. How can this classic western track sound right??? – A-
9 – Rank Strangers To Me – Bob Dylan – A third cover, a third goodie – A-
10 – Rank Strangers To Me – Albert E. Brumley Jr – Terrific old time bluegrass singer, this dates from around 1942. Traditional, I guess. Beats out Dylan’s version – A
