Elvis Was Here
Elvis Was Here

– Riding With Elvis – The Plastic Pals – Despite the reference, and despite the tie in to 80IF, this isn’t rockabilly or Americana, it is classic rock with jingle jangle guitars which seem to be in the backseat for the longest time, trying to crawl over the seat, till they finally jump through at the end – B

– Partition – Beyonce – A year later and maybe three, maybe four, have survived as really really good. This is really really OK – B

– (You Gotta Walk) Don’t Look Back – Peter Tosh – featuring Mick Jagger in a terrific partnership – A+

– Father’s Day – Butch Walker – What is it about Butch Walker that has people overrating him so bad, indeed what is it about Americana that have been listening with their teeth? – B-

– Surface Envy – Sleater Kinney – Not to be too argumentative, but I’ll take Wild Flag myself – B

– Easy Rider – Action Bronson – Better live – B

– Schemin’ Up – OD OBrien – I wasn’t that impressed at first but I had it on a list and every time I reached Drake’s verse I stopped what I was doing to check what the song was – A-

– I’ll Stop At Nothing – Sandie Shaw – Emotional sixties girl group stuff UK style – A-

– I’m In Love – Dub Pistols – Pretty good dub popsters – B

– Brand New Key – Melanie – Classic line: “I’ve got a feeling you’re avoiding me” – A+
