come-see-about-me-flyer

– Come See About Me – The Supremes -The drum roll into this track snaps you awake and the handclaps are all there and the phrase is… who says “come see about me”? It sounds wrong and not vernacular but ageless and cool as hell and Diana sounds sort of vulnerable and in control at the same time – A+

– Your Smiling Face – James – In the middle of punk, I completely missed this track, but after hearing him perform it live, wow what a wonderful love anthem – A

– And I Love You So – Elvis Presley – there are two relationships, one of which haunts him at night; thanks a cipher for the listener though may I suggest that the woman either broke his heart or died on his ass…. or here, this is a longshot, his love died and came back as a ghost and he fell in love with a ghost… Don McLean, right? If he could write “Vincent” he could write anything – A

– Walkin’ Around – Marshall Crenshaw – Off his masterpiece Life’s Too Short, the relationship is over and they are still in the city on a Saturday afternoon, near the end of the relationship – A

– Remember Me – Diana Ross – As a good thing – A+

– Wanna Be Startin’ Something – Michael Jackson – Opening track of his world beater, I can’t remember how it felt to hear this for the first time – A+

– LSD – A$AP Rocky – I can’t wait to see this guy again in September – it should be the show of the Autumn – A

– Cindy Incidentally – The Faces – Sure, I thought these bad boys were overrated yobs, but not always and this is as wonderful as it gets – A

– Southern Boys – Kate And Anna McCarrigle – The trick here, the sisters tricks, was to use old forms of Canadian folks to tell modern tales – A-

– You Make Me Feel Brand New – The Stylistic – As big as easy listening soul ever got – A
