The Queen
The Queen

1. Rolling In The Deep (Aretha Version) – Aretha Franklin – I never much cared for this song till now, this stomping searing Aretha vocal puts makes everybody else, including Adele, amateurs in the also ran  department. Back with Clive, it is so great all I wish is the entire album was Adele covers, what a voice, how she sings the breaks, how she nails feelings we didn’t know were there. Davis overdoes the arrangement, we sure didn’t need “ain’t no mountain high enough” by back up singers, but – A

2. Let It Go- Phil Selway – Radiohead drummer must be well pissed at Thom Yorke releasing an album a coupla days before his, but here on this “Frozen” cover… just kidding, it’s another song, not bad though I bet I know which his kids prefer – B

3. Overdose – Single Mothers – 70s inspired punk with 00s inspired vocals, not bad – B

4. The Amazing Heart Attack – Wampires – Catchy wall of sound rocker – B

5. Dangerous Days – Zola Jesus – Galloping drums, nice vocal – B

6. Waltz # 2 XO – Minnie Driver – Nice job on classic Elliott Smith, she freshens up with hook  – B+

7.  Angela – Allo Darlin’ – Another goodie off an album brimming over with them – B+

8. Can’t Break Me Down – Billy Idol – Pretty lousy rocker – C+

9. Go Away – Weezer – I might like it more if I didn’t have to spell the Best Coast chicks name – B

10. Let It Go – Idina Menzel – sure, I hate, I always did, but it is like a dogs whistle that only girls under a certain age can hear and for them the fuse build to “Let It Go” is a rush of release that works nothing like that for me, I can’t think of another song that works that way which makes it an accidental act of genius – A+
