– The Sweetest Punch – Bill Frisell, Elvis Costello – Bill Frisell’s excellent title track, companion piece, to Painted From Memory loses nothing in this glorious horn swept arrangement… the clarinet replaces the voice – A
– Battle Of The Mighty I – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Noel might be right when he claims Beady Eye were a good band with lousy songs, but what does that make these guys? – C
– Allie – Belle And Sebastian – This little rocker doesn’t work, it’s like Ray Davies without the words and without the melody – C+
– A Soft Place To Fall – Allison Moorer – I’ll be really interested to hear the post- Earle album, she’s a talent woman and this oldie is a pleasure – B+
– Red House – Jimi Hendrix – Written for Linda Keith (Keith Richards wrote “Ruby Tuesday” for the same woman) though the line about hooking up with her sister shows just how romantic Jimi could be – A
– Volunteers – Jefferson Airplane – Grace stares Amerika down – A+
– Moon Funeral – Cloakrooms – Fuzzy indie rockers with a bucket of sludge – B
– Somebody To Love – Jefferson Airplane – If Booker T played an electrical guitar, he would sound like this – A+
– Little Death (feat Nikki Jean) – Lupe Fiasco – Nikki has a fabulously feathery touch which brightens the chorus while Lupe dips deep in the verses – B+
– Muslim Wedding (Dirty) – Action Bronson – I prefer him live – B
