1. Kiss – Prince And The Revolution – On the day after Marvin Gaye was murdered I was inconsolable, and LIVE AID did nothing at all to change it till prince presented the video of a new song, this song, and stopped the show -a masterpiece of beat and tempo, a herky jerk bass throbbing work the likes of which he never came close to again: this did what it should have, it matched his funk and pop sensibilities – A+
2. Stubborn Kind Of Fellow – Marvin Gaye – The drumroll you pushes you into his arm and the chick back up singers are right there after “everybody sing” and the best best best line? “… a few have kissed me tooooo” – A+
3. How Sweet It Is (To be Loved By You) – James taylor – Gaye didn’t need him to sweeten the song and let’s be honest, the problem with covering Gaye is Gaye, but kudos to James who performs it with the sweetest of touch and got himself a smasherino for his efforts – A
4. Elegance – Michael Crawford – 1% wannabes off “Hello Dolly” but the best line is missing: “sometimes we don’t even talk to us” – A
5. When Christmas Comes – Los Campesinos! – These guys never improved on “You’ll Need Those Fingers Crossing” and Garth takes a harpoon to his tastiest songs and this is yet another song that should be better than it is – B+
6.Rollercoaster – Bleachers – My favorite song of the year according to Spotify and guess what? I can live with it – A
7. Boy Crazy – Lydia Loveless – This is what a bad concert will do. She sucked so bad opening for Old 97’s it put me off – A
8. Walking In The Rain – Anika Larsen, Jarrod Spector – Knockout version, especially the early acoustic stuff… off “Beautiful” – B+
9. Passing Through A Screen Door – The Wonder Years – The voice of someone elses generation – A
10. The Look Of Love (Part One) – If you can judge a book by its cover, can you judge a look by the lover? – A+
