When Outkast were babies

When Outkast were babies

1. ATLiens – Outkast – The title track of their first album and it still sounds other worldly. Nearly 20 years ago and it is the template for Atlanta rap and neo soul, with two great rappers and a doomy bass. Really like another planet – A

2. If I Didn’t Know Better – The Civil Wars – “If you are not sad now you’re gonna be…” Man, this band was great – A

3. Kick – Conor Oberst – Strong melody saves iffy lyric about some Kennedy kid- A-

4. Oppenheimer – Old 97’s – Superduper love song explodes – A+

5. I’m A Long Gone Daddy – George Jones – From 1987 album, first rate Hank Williams cover coulda done with a bit more speed, but the vocal is flawless – A-

6. Rock N Roll Star (Demo) – Oasis – Louder and more vicious than the album version – A+

7. Finest Worksong – R.E.M. – If you don’t like this “Lengthy mix” you won’t like R.E.M. I like it, just not as much as maybe I might – B

8. Book Of Revelation – The Drums – Three years between albums? Career hari-kari – A

9. West Coast – Lana Del Rey – Between this and “Once Upon A Dream,” 2014 looks like a big year for Lana – A

10. Sayitt – Rotskopp and Robyn – Awesome wall of sound song – A-
