10 Songs: Monday, July 20th, 2015

1 – I’m  On Fire – AWOL Nation – I totally missed this, off the 50 Shades of Gray soundtrack, but it is really lovely and it is also a little on the quiet side, it is like they don’t want to hard sell you with everything all around, Bruce is all edge, and here there is just a huge sense of distress – B+

2 – Mary Had A Little Lamb – WIngs – In response to “Hi Hi Hi” and “Give Ireland Back To The Irish” getting band by the BBC, here is the response by Paulie before he was knighted – C+

3 – M’Lady Live Set 2 – Sly And The Family Stone – Hang around for the scat at the end – B+

4 – Debut Song 2 – Bon Iver – Opens it with an atheist’s pray, but the song deserves, a beautiful and pure Bon Iver as requested. Apparently, they can put it on at will, at little more aggressive than we we are used to… three back up singers…  the recording sucks, “I won’t leave you alone”, he claims. We will see  – B+

5 – Short Movie – Laura Marling – What a strangely sad album, LA changed her maybe . This is a great song – A

6 – Before This World/Jolly Springtime – Gorgeous song, one of my favorites of the year -the sense of time here and departing is wonderful – A

7 – Our Lucky Day – Adventures In Blues – Sounds like Presley in the best way imaginable, plus… did you check out their video (here)

8 – Abandoned Sets – Trent Reznor – Solo? Well, I’ve always had a taste for his best soundtrack moments -this is incidental music to a purpose – B

9 – So Chill – Vic Mensa – Superb track -this is so big, it really is among the best rap and dance tracks at the same time – A

10 – Who The Fuck Is Paul McCartney – Pegboard Nerds – Danish EDM duo sample Kweezy and Jennifer Lawrence -to great effect on this hysterical, witty and ppur dance track -drop the bass already – A-
