– Round Are Way – Oasis – Noel Gallagher’s greatest moments, it is with this song he comes into his own: a word painting of his Manchester neighborhood childhood with soccer, birds singing, the sun shining and with horns blowing right through and Liam, one of the great and pretty much underestimated, rock singer, is arrogant and cool. What Liam does here, is take an anthem and give the singing a detacment, he sings it out but he doesnt give himself, the result is a godlike distance from the childhood memory. The title is great as well -it is not just our neighborhood or our kids, it is the way we do it – A+
– Black Skinhead – Kanye West – “I know I’m a wolf when the moon hits” West warns, and he would echo the sentiment two years later – A
– Wolves – Kanye West – Right here is where he’d do it – A
– Gentle On My Mind – The Band Perry – They were great when I saw em at MSG, and people get to make choices, but I am not sure about these ones: if Kimberly Perry is walking with a backpack along railroads, it is solely to go flower picking – B
– Nothing Even Matters – Lauryn Hill – Plus D’Angelo, might be called neo-soul or maybe you can drop the neo part of it – A
– We’ve Only Just Begun – The Carpenters – The composer of this song called me a great writer a coupla years ago – A
– Blueberry Island – The Julie Ruin – As they ready the second album, this taster is a better Hammond Keybaods bound pop rock song – A-
– Spin The Bottle – The Juliana Hatfield Three – Best line? “he’s a movie star ony drives rented cars…” – A+
– Worst Behavior – Drake – Just to remind you, the new one is only a mix tape after all – A
– Sealed with A Kiss – Brian Hyland – though we godda say goodbye for the summer… – A+
