Amy Helm
Amy Helm

– Rescue Me – Amy Helm – If you are wondering whether Amy is the real deal, the lead single off her debut album is the essential components of Americana -a hint of country, a hint of jam, a spiritual component, a fine piano, and soulful singing. A very good song – B+

– The Singer Not The Song – The Rolling Stones – While I am working on my novel (due date? summer of 2017 if not later), I spend my time revisiting the band. A somewhat pointless exercise, of course, and there is surprise left here – A+

– Drag Me Down – One Direction – streamed  4.75 million times global on Friday July 31? Hey I played it three times myself – C-

– How Big How Blue How Beautiful (Demo) – Florence + The Machine – I vastly prefer this demo version, I am so sick of big songs – B+

– Back To Back – Drake – This is a very fine indeed little number, Meek Mill got told – A-

– A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles – Jack Huerta just wrote a story about that opening chord – A+

– Fading Fast – Best Coast – I still don’t see why this album tanked on her, a terrific love song and still a downer – A

– Sugar – Jennifer Nettles – Never a fan, last years excellent That Girl turned me round on her, and this song turns me all the way back – C

– First Time – Icona Pop – This kinda came and went but it is pretty good, this is an addictive slice of pop shoffofiness, certain in its catchiness even though you aren’t  B+

– Night’s On Fire – David Nail – If we must listen to Bro Country, this will certainly do the job. Smart lyric, lively and well sung… it does the job – B
