Fantastic Planet Of Crenshaw
Fantastic Planet Of Crenshaw

1. Fantastic Planet Of Love – Marshall Crenshaw – This is the most Crenshaw-y song he has ever written, the sink of “just this morning I felt like troubles plaything” is lost and the joy just overwhelms you -he steps back to the problems of life and then takes us out of. One of the greatest songs ever – A+

2. Nothing Compares 2 U – Capital Cities – Why are they doing this? Why would they take every ounce of feeling out of the song and perform it? – D-

3. I Luh Ya Papi –  Jennifer Lopez And French Montana – Surprisingly original backing track pushes this song where it might not usually get to – B+

4. Better back Off – Marshall Crenshaw – On a Life’s Too Short jag, this is the second best song on the album – A

5. The Squid Jiggin’ Ground – Peter Stampfel –Yeah it is an Irish jig but the serious of execution makes it sound the way jigs used to and not like a Lucky Charms commercial – A

6. Lovers Who Wander – Dion – Runaround Sue part two and, unbelievably, its equal – A

7. Walkin’ Around – Marshall Crenshaw – Splendid wait till you get to the coda: “see the boys watch the girls watch the boys watch the girls…” – A

8. Charge – Elbow – I know, the martial beat is tempting so give in, stop fighting it – A-

9. Not Over You (feat Gavin McGraw) – Sara Evans – Now I got it, she wants to be Colbie Caillat – C

10. Somewhere Down The Line – Marshall Crenshaw – The conclusion to his little known masterpiece – A
