Dogs

– For No One – Houndstooth – A big song that doesn’t feel as big as it should, alternative folk rock on acid welding its words and considered by npr for one to be a major breakthrough for the Rough Trade bad. – B
– No News From Home – Houndstooth – This is better, a big time rock folk song uber depressive, with a psychedelic fake out at the end – B+

– Rain Or Shine – Young Fathers – One of the most anticipated gigs is this Scottish African band, in a world where nothing balances the experimental with the mainstream, the heavy drums here sound like nothing else you’ve heard – A-

– Forever Young Fast – Bob Dylan – nobody ever mentions this version, though it is a blast and then some, great harp – B+
– Whats So Funny About Peace Love And Understanding – Tomas Doncker Band – With their covers album complete, this response to Fergusson is understated but quite accurate – B +

– Old Man River – Paul Robeson – from one of the greatest musicals ever, the booming bass is an expression of slavery and mortality and also immortality – A+
– Old Man – Neil Young – 24 and there’s so much more. Wise beyond its years -A
– U Got The Look – Prince – This is so big and he can’t come close to it anymore, he has his funk still but lost his pop chops – A

– FUNKNROLL – This works as a funk workout but that’s all, it’s also enough- B
– I’ll Think Of A Reason Later – Lee Ann Womack – Her masterpiece – A
