– Across The Universe – David Bowie – It is worth noting how much worse this is than even the Rufus Wainwright take. Botched and a half by Phil Spector, the Lennon unplugged version is the one to go for, Bowie overdoes everything to start with and when the best thing you can do with the song is let it speak for itself, Bowie oversings it at then some – C-
– You Can’t Do That – Harry Nilsson – I’ve got no kick against Lennon’s old drinking buddy, but this is an atrocity. It needed absolutely nothing and instead Harry leaned on the rhythmic stop start and throttled it – C-
– You Won’t see Me – bryan ferry – I didn’t realize it before but all Ferry can do to a cover is throttle it.
– Day Tripper – Jimi Hendrix – The greatest cover artist of all time. Jimi let’s his guitar tone carry him, unfortunately the vocals are dastardly – B
– Hey Jude – Bing Crosby – The mindboggles, just, I don’t know what to say – C-
– Lady Madonna – Fats Domino – Better than I remember it, it was always a McCartney tribute to Fats and it sounds so great. Fats vocal is great as well – A
– And I Love Her – Bobby Womack – “I’ve always believed you’ve got to give to get some love…” – B
– In My Life – Keith Moon – Just what we need, a sincere Moon. Hey, what the heck, right? – B-
– On The Island – Brian Wilson And She And Him – A Bossa Nova – C+
– Day Tripper – Otis redding – A rarity, a beatle cover that gives the original a run for its money – A
