Your rock nyc Halloween Bands -by Alyson Camus

It’s almost Halloween, this time of the year when people get crazy with their outfits, and in LA, we have our dose of madness with a costume parade on Hollywood boulevard and another flamboyant nightmare (especially for the traffic) on Santa Monica boulevard, the core of gay-land.
And what does this have to do with rock music? In rock music, there are two kinds of bands, the ones whose members perform in their every-day outfits and the ones whose members dressed up and for some of these rock bands, it’s Halloween all year long.

Halloween is in 5 days, so here are 10 of these bands:

1. Marilyn Manson: You cannot beat him, half-named after an insane guru-murderer, the anti-Christ of the macabre, the goth god of the dark side, he is probably the scariest of all.

2. The Misfits: the Halloween soundtrack, some horror punk rockers who have read Bret Easton Ellis

3. Kiss: I once heard Alice Cooper said Kiss had stolen all the visuals from him, and it is probably true. The painted face, the platform boots, the leather and the chain, without forgetting the large tongued Gene Simmons, they look so outdated now, make-up does not age graciously, and I could never stand Simmons.

4. Murder Dolls: Nothing new, nothing new, a look that borrows a little bit from all the bands above.

5. Rob Zombie: He is on the list even more for his name than for his look, and didn’t he direct some Halloween movies?

6. Slipknot: Hannibal Lecter masks and heavy metal.

7. Mushroomhead: Same shit than Slipknot, creepy ugly masks and metal. How many of these do we need?

8. Devo: This list seemed to come from too many horror movies, I had to lighten it up, but I have never figured out what they were wearing on their heads. A lamp? They always make an easy-do-it-yourself Halloween disguise.

9. Daft Punk: At least they are not doing metal, but funny helmets are just a way to get away with everything.

10. Village people: They bring some colors to Halloween, I am sick of all these zombies, scary Frankenstein heads and other nightmarish monsters. But they are kind of a cliché now when it comes to Halloween costumes.
