So lets talk about this shall we? Below is a video of about 4 different version of the same song. The visual of the video itself is horrible but whomever put this together did a hell of a job, with the song(s).
There is something about the strings the swoony dream like sound of the maracas or something that simply whips me back 50 years as if I had been there, though I wasn't even born. I've discussed Sinatra and Martin and I will continue to do so for as much as a hardcore girl as I am, I am still just a dame.
When a guy belts out a song like this to you its nearly surreal. Does a man exist these days who even knows how to woo? I mean wooo as in woo'ing not wooo as in WOOT WOOTing. I swear I belong back then when men were men and women were broads.
But I'm not. This song (as evident in this video) has been performed by numerous people. Each bringing a nice desperation to the vibe, some going a bit more on the Mexican side of it (taking after the Lana Turner film, Mr. Imperium, that it was sung in ) Hell even the Disney Three Cabaleros have a version.
But who wins?
Jerry Vale, hands down. The intro with just acoustic guitar and voice sets the stage for a plea statement. Vale sounds as if he is not only telling his love they do belong to his heart but also seem to be pleading that its true. This version should be played in a club at closing time while a couple dances exhaustedly slow and close.
The issue here is that songs of this genre actually have emotions more than lust anger or party, these cats sing from the soul. Perhaps these crooners crooned to get some action but I'm pretty sure they got their fair share and more.
This is a great song, a meaningful song. An innocently sexy song.
