I remember when I
a) not only participated in
b) not only eagerly anticipated
but
c) considered it the state of the art in both rock criticism and rock music.
Now it is a straight drag.
The albums: Kanye, LCD, Janelle, AF, VF; the singles: lotsa Kanye, Cee Lo, Robyn. Again, no shockers.
OK, what do we expect?
a. dissenting voices
b. comments from writer after writer
c. some form of cultural dissertion
d. more than the handful of pages we got
This year was just sad. Oh, how are the mighty fallen. Obviously, nobody was willing to advertise and they just winged it out.
Sorta like the way Village Voice, who just dumped columnist Wayne Barrett, do everything in 2011.
