Feeling Alright – Joe Cocker – I have no idea why Cocker dances like a poor kid with muscular dystrophy but I saw him a coupla years ago at the Beacon and he was still doing it. A sorta hard rock blues number that you already know of course because you remember Dave mason and Traffics original. Score: 7/10.
Let’s Go Get Stone – Joe Cocker – Like praising Jesus in a revival meeting. Score: 4/10
With A Little Help From My Friends – Joe Cocker – Let’s try and pretend we haven’t hear Cocker’s schtick a million times and hear it the way the Woodstuck generation did. Well, guess what? It is the top of the musical food chain and single handedly saved Cocker from that very moment to this. Score: 8/10
Rock And Soul Music – Country Joe And the Fish – i love lines like “Your love is like a rainbow…” Score: 7/10
Love – Country Joe And the Fish – Forty years ago shouting “Marijuana” at the start was considered…. umm, I’m guessing it was considered pathetic even then. Score: 4/10
Not So Pretty Sweet Martha Lorraine – Country Joe And the Fish – I really loath the keybs -where is Ray Manzarek when you need him? Score 4/10
Summer Dresses – Country Joe And the Fish – Congrats to Country Joe, a better song than Springsteen’s travesty “Girls In Their Summer Clothes”. Score: 6/10.
Silver and Gold -Country Joe And the Fish – I paid my $90 bucks like a good consumer, why are you making me suffer through this? Score: 4/10.
Rock & Soul Music – Country Joe And the Fish – Put down the joint, move away from the organ, and keep your hands in the air. Score: 3/10.
Leland Mississippi Blues – Johnny Winter – Where’s the brown acid? This is why very white boys shouldn’t play the blues plus Missisis(etc) is a bitch to type. Score; 4/10.
Mean Town Blues – Johnny Winter – I can’t stand this guys voice. Score: 4/10
You’ve Made Me So Very Happy – Blood, Sweat and Tears – Fusion used to have a very bad name and this is why. It is so fussy, so boring, so badly sung, I can’t listen to it. Score: 5/10.
I don’t need to do the math. If I never hear this disc again it’ll be too soon. It should be taken out and shot at dawn. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Oh well, punk is only seven years away….
