Winner – U2 – Talk about timing being everything, the Nelson Mandela movie, “Long Walk To Freedom” was having its premiere the night Nelson died and U2, who I would love to claim opportunism but can’t because, well, I don’t believe it was, have their stinky “Ordinary Love” saved from the fag ends of the pop bonfire. Will it be enough? If U2 can’t get a hit single with this sort of a lead in perhaps they should become carpenters or dentists or something.
Loser – Kanye West – Kanye’s problem isn’t that he isn’t a genius, West is, indeed, a genius. His problem is that he isn’t a genius at all the things he claims to be a genius at. West is our greatest hip hop artist and maybe the second greatest songwriter of the 21 st century but he is a jackass and right now he gets in trouble whether he says something or he doesn’t say something. He gets hung on a rumor.
