Oh Willie you are a bad bad boy, aren’t you? According to the Daily Beast, legendary country singer Willie Nelson wants to launch his own brand of weed. Yeap, he wants to be your Marijuana dealer. This doesn’t even surprise me as Willie has spent his whole life (or almost) smoking marijuana and supporting the industry behind it,… he really believes into it, as these are his personal morals and convictions.
And the surprising thing about all this is that there will be stores (where marijuana has become legal, states like Colorado or Washington) that will sell Willie’s weed. Furthermore, it’s not going be exclusively Nelson’s production, he obviously wants to grow his own, but there will be ‘opportunities for other growers, who meet quality standards’…. ‘Let’s just call it the anti-Walmart model. Personally, internally, that’s what we call it. A certain standard by which growers have to account for carbon and such, in a way that empowers small growers who are doing the right thing’, declared Michael Bowman, the PR person behind the project, to the Daily Beast. For Bowman, Willie could be a distributor of weed, just as Whole Foods store (yep not Walmart!) has its own brand but distributes other brands. I am totally ignorant when it comes to the different varieties of weed but apparently there are a lot of them, just look here, the possibilities seem endless.
‘This is a culmination of Willie’s vision and his whole life,’ adds Bowman. ‘I’m not sure any of us could have predicted how fast the dominoes would start falling once they started falling (as far as legalization). And You have the men like Willie who’s been out there getting arrested, standing up saying what’s right, and not wavering from that core.’
Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form, although only Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska have legalized Marijuana for recreational use. But I guess it is just a matter of time until it is legal everywhere… hum even in Texas? Willie may be singing, ‘Texas/It’s where I want to be/The only place for me/Where my spirit can be free,’ but we are not there yet, or are we? State Republican David Simpson recently showed some surprising support for weed consumption: ‘Everything that God made is good, even marijuana. The conservative thought is that government doesn’t need to fix something that God made good.’ I have huge issues with that statement but this is another debate.
So Willie’s weed will be in a store near you soon, if you live in the right state, and, who knows, he could collaborate with the Marley family, who is in the same business?
