Willie, seems to be flip flopping, didn’t he just help campaign for Democrat Dennis Kucinich? I suppose whomever will legalize weed is a friend of Willies. Announcement comes now that he will participate at the Republican Convention in Tampa Florida on Aug. 29.
Ok, truth is he is appearing as part of a nonpartisan organization Got Your 6. This cutesy little name is yet another military veteran support group. Named after the military expression that means “I’ve got your back,” Got Your 6 was launched this year in partnership with the entertainment industry to support veterans and military families, cuz God knows there ardent enough of these groups already.
Got your 6 is playing to both political parties. The organization is also putting on a fundraising concert at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5 featuring Flo Rida.
Greg Propper, a spokesman for Got Your 6, explained that the concerts aren’t about Nelson getting out the vote for Mitt Romney or Flo Rida helping President Barack Obama get reelected.
“These are not … political concerts,” Propper said, “They are awareness events that celebrate this generation of veterans, while making people realize the talents and skills they bring to the table. We’re happy to be hosting these at both conventions, because we believe this is one issue where both sides can agree.”
Got Your 6 executive director Chris Marvin noted that the 2012 election is really important for Iraq and Afghanistan vets and that the concerts “will bring a national spotlight to the urgent need for programs that bridge the gap between military service and civilian life.”
I think we have forgotten something very important. Our military is a full volunteer organization. None of these men or women were pulled off the street and forced to fight, they chose to. So every crying wife at the airport and every kid popping out in the delivery room should be no heart tug- these people knew what they signed up for. It wasn’t just a free college education or a ‘trade’, youre military, you wanted to defend and serve your country. Why they don’t plan for their own transition from service is beyond me. I don’t care how many pasta dinners and sock drives are thrown, its still a choice and plan accordingly.
So Willy and Flo are gonna sing some songs at the conventions so you can support ‘Got Your 6’. This sentimental nonsense really touches me, God Bless America.
