The great Hannah Arendt once noted that children who can not afford food at school must be fed food at school, because even Einstein couldn't study on an empty stomach. Wise words. The dream is that poverty in the US is a choice, but children have very limited choices and poverty strikes them hardest.
It is something I know second hand. My father was raised in abject poverty and worked a s a child. My grandfather died in some long forgotten war and my grandmother was a servant who ended up in a lunatic asylum. And my father went hungry at the start of the 20th century. Hunger leaves an aura and it never left, in 1960s England, I can sense it somewhere upon him. It is like imagining the unimaginable and among the effects I choose to mention was a constant giving of money to childrens charities.
Will I Am suffered through hunger when he was a child, and while it might be seenm a bit by choice as opposed to their simply being no food, still, it is a stark reminded of this particular horror. It is Dickensian (who had a similarly unfortunate youth) even if the Black Eyed Peas leader isn't particularly poetic about it. Yhis is what WIll I AM had to say according to contactmusic.com:
