Thanks to WikiLeaks, every news source is now reporting that Beyonce, Usher and Mariah Carey have partied with Qaddafi’s sons!
Seif al-Islam el-Qaddafi paid Mariah Carey $1 million to sing just four songs at an opulent party in the Caribbean Island of St. Barts in 2009. He denied it, pointing the finger to his brother Muatassim, Libya’s national security adviser, who also did his little New Year’s bash in 2010 with, this time, Beyonce and Usher and other performers who have still to be named. Supposedly Lionel Ritchie also went to Libya several years before this, to sing at Qaddafi’s daughter wedding party.
The Qaddafis are criminal, corrupted, tyrannic assholes, who have just declared on Libyan TV that ‘the country would face rivers of blood if its people did not cease protesting’.
Ok, in 2006 the Bush administration had restored full diplomatic relations with Libya, and removed it from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and Qaddafi’s son was greeted warmly by US secretary of States Hillary Clinton in 2009, we know about the hypocrisy of the government, but artists?
I know, I have never considered these three as artists, and it is not as if they had not already sold out. But I’m just curious what they will say to justify their choice.
