We don’t dis Sting enough. That one named fool who’s tales of tantric sex and smuggy fund raisers annoy the hell out of me. I hate when a cool artist gets so inflated they’re like a Macys Parade balloon.
We chose instead to slag on Bono (another one named jerk) and Dave Grohl who’s teeth are the size of his bravado (and maybe should just go by the name ‘Grohl’ to fit in).
Sting has been laurel resting for a long time now. What’s he been up to beside counting cash and dressing up. Well that crafty guy is soon releasing new material. September 2013 to be exact. Stoked? No, not yet. I don’t suppose this will be a big pop album. Instead it’s a soundtrack to a Broadway show he is doing set to open in 2014. What is it with the faux highbrow crap from these people. These guys were part of the new wave, now their part of the old cliché’.
According to Broadway.com, The Last Ship is based on Sting’s concert album The Soul Cages and is inspired by his childhood experiences growing up in Newcastle. The musical tells the story of a family of shipyard workers who embark on a global voyage as the shipyard that employs them prepares to close.”
The New York Post already gave Sting a nice whomp back in May after the shows reading stating, Here’s hoping Sting fares better with “The Last Ship.” It represents something of a breakthrough for him. He suffered from writer’s block for several years, but managed to pull himself out of the slump working on this show. I don’t know what triggered the slump — I’ll ask him the next time I run into him at a Broadway shindig — but I bet it had something to do with that disastrous Disney cartoon, “The Emperor’s New Groove.” Sting was hired to write the songs, but Disney executives rejected them. The 2000 movie, which ended Disney’s string of animated hits from the 1990s, was released with nary a song. Sting said: “At first I was angry and perturbed. Then I wanted some vengeance.”
Safe to say it’s going to suck but unlike Bono on Broadway no one will drop from the ceiling into the audiences lap. At least I do think so.
