We all love a good fight, especially between celebrities, and when the fight is between two major egocentric celebs, with the two biggest heads around, I can only be watching with delight. Apparently Marina Abramovic had a beef against Jay Z as she expressed it during an interview with Spike Art Magazine.
Remember? Jay Z adapted her pompous performance ‘The Artist is Present’ for his video ‘Picasso Baby’ at New York’s Pace Gallery in 2013, and this resulted into this, which is described as the ‘biggest meetings of art and pop culture in the last 10 years’… no kidding! The problem is that Marina doesn’t seem to do anything for free, as she declared: ‘YES, BUT THERE WAS ONE REASON FOR THIS THAT I CAN’T TALK ABOUT. I AM VERY PISSED BY THIS, SINCE HE ADAPTED MY WORK ONLY UNDER ONE CONDITION: THAT HE WOULD HELP MY INSTITUTE. WHICH HE DIDN’T.’ Since it is in capital letters in the magazine I will let it this way,… is it to show how angry she was? Probably an everyone likes a good fight.
‘The day before, he came to my office and I gave him an entire power point presentation and said: okay, you can help me, because I really need help to build this thing,’ she continues. ‘Then he just completely used me. And that wasn’t fair. This is very different from Lady Gaga, for example, who has done great work for me. Just by having 45 million followers, she brought all these young kids into my public.’
So basically Marina appeared in Jay Z’s video just to get money to build her phony institute? What a celebrity-sucker this woman is! Can’t she see she is exactly admitting this? The interviewer is actually milking the scandal, asking her more about the Jay Z affair, ‘And you were totally used and came out with nothing. It’s very unfair,’ she answers… ‘And in the end it was only a one-way transaction. I will never do it again, that I can say. Never. I was really naive in this kind of world. It was really new to me, and I had no idea that this would happen. It’s so cruel, it’s incredible. I will stay away from it for sure.’
Cruel? My god, she showed up for 5 minutes, rubbed her head against Jay Z’s and didn’t get the $100,000 she expected and this is cruel? And she feels used? I’m starting to believe her ego is bigger than Kanye’s which is a hard thing to accomplish.
Of course it was not good publicity for Jay Z, so, on Wednesday, the rapper’s label denied the accusation and declared that a contribution had been made to Abramovic’s foundation. Really? Or has this been made après coup? When her interview became to spread around the internet? The Guardian is even reporting that the Institute has issued an apology to both Jay Z and Abramović because it had failed to inform the artist about the donation! ‘Marina Abramović was not informed of Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter’s donation from two years ago.’…You will never make me believe this crap! Either Marina didn’t know what she was talking about and very unfairly accused a guy who had donated a subsequent amount of money, so she is a moron, or Jay Z was caught and had to repair the damage by donating at the last minute? Who knows, in any case these two deserve each other!
