It was something that would eventually happen, when you play being robots, you eventually end up as one, or as a toy, an action figure. Bandai and Japan’s S.H. Figuarts (I knew it would have to come from Japan) which offers high quality action figures, has made six-inch figures Daft Punk, designed under the direct supervision of the band. I don’t read Japanese but people have translated it for everyone:

‘… the figures, which feature the duo’s latest attire from RAM, were crafted with meticulous attention to detail — [the] helmet area employs a shiny metallic finish and clear parts for enhanced realism.’

You can tell it is very realistic, and you can also move them in any kind of position (like G.I. Joes?) since they have ‘advanced S.H. Figuarts articulation and seven sets of left/right interchangeable hand parts for recreation of dynamic posing’.

So not only the French duo is at the top of the charts with their ‘Random Access Memories’ but they now have their own action figures? What do you do with them? Do they come with real music instruments? Oh that’s true I forgot, Daft Punk doesn’t play real instruments anyway…

I was wondering who else in the music world has his action figure, and, in less than a minute, I have found Motorhead Lemmy Kilmister, Iggy Pop here and here, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC,… so I am now convinced I could find anyone I want. Nevertheless, I bet Daft Punk are the first French to receive the (dis)honor.

Why do people buy these things is beyond my comprehension, but Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter look totally buff, and I am starting to think they would make a nice addition to my nephew’s Power Rangers collection!
