I have no real excuse for posting a movie trailer on a music blog, except that we review movies sometimes, and that music is always like a central character in Paul Thomas Anderson’s movies: this new one has the voice of indie harpist Joanna Newsom, who is serving as the film’s narrator in the movie… that’s her voice you can hear in the trailer and she has even a part in the movie as an ‘earth-goddess-like’.
Yes, this is the trailer of the very anticipated Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, entitled ‘Inherent Vice’ – based on the 2009 novel by Thomas Pynchon –and it looks intriguing to say the least… very different from ‘The Master’. Starring Joaquin Phoenix (with a weird and ugly sideburn hairdo) and an all-star cast with Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, (Katherine Waterston, Owen Wilson, Jena Malone… this trailer gave me a sort of Boogie Nights vibe, whereas other people are talking about the Big Lebowski!
At the top of this, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood is once again composing the score of the movie, as he has done it previously for ‘There Will Be Blood’ and ‘The Master’…. No Greenwood in this trailer but’ I Want To Take You Higher’ by Sly & the Family Stone, and ‘Wonderful World’ by Sam Cooke., so far it could be a Tarantino movie! The film premieres this Saturday at the New York Film Festival, and is set to be released in theaters this Christmas.
