Guys something odd is happening. Warped Tour the iconic ‘rock and roll summer camp’ seems to be stuck in a rut. Kevin Lyman.. whats up? Lyman is the head honcho and planner extraordinaire of this amazing event and has seen some incredible success.
We have watched as Warped as evolved from a ‘what the hell is that?’ event to an actual MTV series (Warped Roadies). The crowd remains young but the bands… the bands are getting heavy recycle. There was a time when you would furrow your brow and ponder who the hell these entertainers were. There was a sense of ‘any guy’ could play the tour and that’s what made it so amazing. But the headliners.. they’re stagnant.
Lets me explain, Black Veil Brides, and Mayday Parade live on Warped- they need the boot. I thought it was just a ‘weak year’ but now come word that Devil Wears Prada is back- guys really? You’re beyond Warped now aren’t you? The announcements of bands is starting to trickle in and guess what… frikken Mayday Parade is on it again. So far no Black Veil but it’s still early. Oh and The Ready Set are there…again…
So I stand here and wonder…what’s up? Is the alternative route this lame? We do have some interesting additions, Chunk NO! Captain Chunk, by far one of the most arrogant band of nobodies of all time. A band that has really offered us nothing in a long time. The newish Air Dubai, theyre sorta cool and deserve a Warped slot, as do Mixtapes but I have a funny feeling we’re going to be underwhelmed.
I say its 2 Warped and out. You shouldn’t be able to bank on this tour every year and you would expect that bands wouldn’t want to do it over and over. Of course, caravaning is much less expensive and the ‘vibe’ is cool but c’mon, move over and let the new kids in.
