Warped Interview: The Ready Set

The Ready Set is…Jordan Witzigreuter.  A 21 year old one man operation who takes on a band when touring but otherwise is on his own.  Similar in concept to The Summer Set, which leads one to ponder…is it the 'set'?

This interview was at the very end of a very exhausting Warped experience.  A calm had come over the backstage area as if everyone knew it was almost quitting time.  Freshly showered and looking somewhat bewildered Jordan arrived ready to speak to those who had signed up for interview time.  As a long time fan it was twice as fabulous to speak to someone I consider an inspiration.  His electric indie pop sound, appearance and upbeat personality have his fanbase at an all time high, and this year on Warped he was quite the talk of my friends and I.

Since there was a great number of people lined up to speak to him, were asked to keep it shorter than five minutes, so we got right to it.

Mary Magpie: "What's the best thing about being on Warped?"
Jordan Witzigreuter: "The best thing about being on Warped Tour is the crowds, definitely.  It's been surprisingly really, really good, great reactions."

MM: "What's a band on Warped you'd like to do a collaboration with?"
Witzigreuter: "I really don't know, that's hard… I don't do collaborations with anybody, honestly, just because I feel like my music, what I do, kind of can blend in with what a lot of other bands do.  There's no one really, if the opportunity arose.

MM: "What's the most ridiculous thing that's happened to you on this tour?"
Witzigreuter: "I don't think anything ridiculous has happened on this tour, honestly.  Basically, my agenda is I wake up, play a show, that's it.  Not too much really happens.  Everyone hangs out every night but I've been pretty clear of any ridiculousness.  I think everyone's just kind of…(chill).  We're just real quite here."

MM: "What do you see in the future for your music?"
Witzigreuter: "I don't know.  I've been writing a lot, always constantly writing.  I guess I don't look too much into what the next thing's going to be, I just write whatever comes out and whatever happens, that's what going to happen.  I don't really plan to much, I just do it."

MM: "Can you describe yourself in three words?"
Witzigreuter: "Probably not.  I get asked this a lot, so I just pick three random words… I'm gonna pick water, floor, ceiling."

MM: "What's an embarrassing or unexpected song on your iPod?"
Witzigreuter: "Usually the embarrassing songs are the good ones.  I don't really have any embarrassing ones, I feel like if you like something, you shouldn't be embarrassed.  But I like Taylor Swift a lot.  But that's the only thing, really."

Jordan Witzigreuter was all smiles during our quick interview, shortened by the line of people who wanted to talk to him. Regardless, his radiant personality shone through and he was genuinely nice.

After wrapping up the interview and getting a picture, I walked away happy that he wasn't another NeverShoutNever. The Ready Set is going to get bigger and bigger, not only due to Witzigreuter's talent, but his kindness.
