VOTE CAT COSMAI FOR PRESIDENT (and also the Ultimate Borough Battle Winner )

discerning singer Cat Cosmai

You know what Cat sounds like: she is like a female hall and Oates with a dollop of Billy Joel circa An Innocent Man. At least that’s the best I can do with “Waiting For me” -a plainly awesome soul song.

The Staten Island singer is also a discerning reader who said this about me (and I quote) ” One of New York City’s most respected and relevant journalistic voices”. Plainly nonsense but hey I’ll take it!!!

Cat released The Line late last year and I was planning to catch her live but haven’t managed to yet though next time, right? Even if only to check up on my friend and her producer, the no slouch himself in the talent department Frank Schiazza. And it was Frank who told me I had to throw my hat in and support Cat in her battle of the boroughs. So here is what is going on:

She will be competing in the Final Round of the 2013 Greene Space Battle of the Boroughs on Friday, June 21st, at 7:00 pm, representing Staten Island. To vote for Cat, text UB5 to 69866 or vote online for Cat Cosmai at www.thegreenespace.org. All votes must be cast between 7:00pm–9:30pm on Friday, June 21st.

Yeah, well I really think we should get behind cat, she deserves rooting for. here is some more stuff from Frank, though really? Mariah??? well, if you say so…

Cat Cosmai is a New York-based soul and R&B singer, steeped in the grand tradition of the great soul divas of old while adding a modern punch to her own music. Her voice has been hailed for its blend of Tina Turner’s 70’s bluesy belting, Mariah Carey’s 90’s soul wailing and Amy Winehouse’s deep ache.

Cosmai, a former model, dancer and Ms. Staten Island runner-up, first started singing in high school, and was selected to sing the National Anthem at the commencement ceremonies for Pace University in 2008. Her first band experience came with Breezy Grass in 2008, but Cosmai didn’t try her hand at performing solo until she met Frank Schiazza, a veteran songwriter and musician.

Cosmai & Schiazza spent nearly one year writing and recording the tracks for THE LINE, her first album, which was finally released on December 13th, 2012. The reviews for the album were glowing across the board and hailed Cosmai as one of today’s brightest young talents.

Hearing Cat Cosmai’s thin, New York inflected manner of speech, one would never imagine the husk and bravado of her singing. But it’s there in all its glory on THE LINE, front and center on a record that is rich with textured grooves and varying styles. Despite all the big boy sounds around her, it is the grace and power of her voice that reigns supreme.”
