The Vinyl Resting Place by Alyson Camus

Some people push the morbid to the extreme. I have unexpectedly read about this company ‘andvinyly.com’ which advertises itself as ‘The perfect resting place for vinyl lovers’.

So I thought about some kind of recycling place for old vinyl? A collector site?
Not at all, it is much more ‘interesting’ than this if you are into the grotesque and the gruesome.

They offer to press your ashes in a vinyl recording for your loved ones after your death, and to record your personal message, your will and testament, or your own soundtrack.
It’s not cheap as you can imagine, the basic package of 30 discs (24 minutes of recording) is £ 2000, but you can also get an original artwork on the cover, your portrait by James Hague of the National Portrait Gallery, for another £ 4300, or even get music written and produced specifically for you, made by bands from the House of Fix & www.daftwerk.com,… the options are endless.
It’s also available for pets or body parts! I swear, I am not making this up, I couldn’t!
The UK company was founded by Jason Leach, and he recently explained he launched the service because he was thinking he was ‘getting a bit old’ and ‘might not be invincible’. While his mother started working at a funeral directors, he saw on TV a show about some crazy American putting his ashes into fireworks, and thought it was interesting.
There is a lot of music about death already, a lot of bands with the word death in their name, but this is a brand new way to see things, or to make money. At least their slogan is funny: ‘live on from beyond the groove’.
