Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”: What I Am Listening To Right This Minute by Helen Bach

This morning was I was provided with a live version of “Into The Mystic”.

Van Morrison, one of my favorite sounds, can often get a bit stuffed cheek in an almost Joe Cocker sort of mumble.

He can seem all babbling bullshit when I just feel like singing along to straight lyrics. I often despise live recordings for this same reason.

Stick to the script.

But today as I stood there. Mascara wand poised in mid air in the midst of my own daily routine this song came in like a sword and cut me off at the knees.

The piano in this version is angelic, the horns so clear so incredibly sharp, it felt like a blow to the chest.

And all the while the now soft bean bag chair of a voice of Mr Morrison provided the landing cushion for my fall.

What a spectacular find. What a glorious sound. How an ‘oldie’ can suddenly become so new and so relevant and sound so…perfect, is beyond me.

Gorgeous.

What I find as a perfect end note to this thought is that my shuffle library followed this with Velvet Revolvers “Fall To Pieces”, which is exactly what I did upon hearing this version of Live Mystic.

Its gonna be a great day. Spread the love.
