Beck has been teasing us with this new cute Facebook profile entitled ‘Dreams’, and a 14-second flashy video which is certainly an excerpt from a new song. It’s retro-disco-electro and super explosive in a funky way, but way too short to get a good idea, still it is very promising. Just like the previous one posted just yesterday, a dynamic pumped-up guitar which reminds me why I liked Beck so much…. I honestly think he had gone too mellow recently.
On Monday he will release his brand new single, ‘Dreams’, so I will save my comment until then, but Beck was talking to the Los Angeles radio station 98.7 recently, and he confirmed the release of this new album. And if you were like me and a bit bored by his last one ‘Morning Phase’ – it was good, but just good – you are in luck, because Beck has announced a very different sound for this one, as these two snippets tend to demonstrate in a very short of time.
‘It started out as a heavy garage rock thing and became much more of a dance — some kind of hybrid,’ he said to the radio station. He also said he had been working on it for a few years so that the material is ‘pretty diverse,’ but ‘it’s a group of songs that fit together.’
This sounds like a very good thing, it’s upbeat, funky, and this album will be much more fun that the last one, even the artwork is weird enough. Now if mellow Beck can win Grammys, imagine what funky Beck can accomplish, or listen to Midnight Vultures and Odelay! Watch out Kanye!
