A few bands did a Shel Silverstein tribute, so I decided to check it out.
Being a fan of Silverstein, I decided to listen to people interpret his poems to music.
Every single one is beautifully done, insightful, and impressive.
Putting a twist on already great pieces, these artists were obviously chosen for a reason. My Morning Jacket did a phenomenal job, probably the best artist out of the bunch. It may not be my style of music, but it’s definitely enjoyable. Shel Silverstein, clearly a genius, provided a dreamy lyrics while My Morning Jacket add an unique spin to the authors vision on “Lullabyes, Legends and Lies”. John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and Dr. Dog also represent.
Silverstein wrote “Sylvia’s Mother”, “Cover Of The Rolling Stone” and “A Boy Named Sue” among many great songs.
Having musicians pay tribute to a great writer is a fantastic idea. I suggest we have Justin Beiber take on the works of Poe.
In all sincerity the crossing over of artists is fascinating. To pay tribute to ones peers is a great trend. I hope to see more of it.
