Did Jennifer Chiba know First Aid? Apparently so and if she did there is no rational explanation for her removing the knife from Elliott Smith’s body.
Around the begining of my research into Elliott Smith’s death, I randomly asked friends what they would do if I walked into the room with a knife sticking out of my chest. Replies ranged from call 911 to have me lie down. Nobody would have pulled out the knife.
When it comes to criminal negligent homicide there is the “common sense” law. If common sense dictates a cause of action will lead to another person’s death the other person is huilty of criminal negligent homicide.
But in the case of Jennifer Chiba, though she has testified removing the knife from Smith’s body, I didn’t pursue this because the LAPD didn’t pursue it. Even though it was deadly stupid. Most people would have known what the end rsult of thoser actions would be but most people isn’t everyone.
However, it has subsequently come to my attention that Jennifer Chiba had a career as an art therapist.
Here is Wikipedia’s definition of art therapy:
“Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses art materials, such as paints, chalk and markers. Art therapy combines traditional psychotherapeutic theories and techniques with an understanding of the psychological aspects of the creative process, especially the affective properties of the different art materials.
“As a mental health profession, art therapy is employed in many clinical settings with diverse populations. Art therapy can be found in non-clinical settings as well as in art studios and in workshops that focus on creativity development. Closely related in practice to marriage and family therapists and mental health counseling, art therapists throughout the US are licensed as either MFTs, LPCs, or LPCCs and hold either registration or board certification as an art therapist (see section on Art Therapy Standards of Practice). Art therapists work with children, adolescents, and adults and provide services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities”
Alyson Camus and I have started to research whether it was necessary for Jennifer Chiba to have a degree in 1st Aid. We have contacted the American Association Of Art Therapists for clarification.
But, as the quote above shows, art therapy can involve children and, though it doesn’t mention it above, often does. And in order to work with children in the State of California you must know 1st aid and CPR.
Alyson found the following links for art therapists and each and every one knew 1st Aid.
These are websites of art therapists and it is said they all have CPR/first aid training

Here is wikipedia’s definition of criminal negligent homicide: “is a criminal charge brought against people who, through criminal negligence, allow others to die.”
Negligent Homicide is a lesser included offense to first and second degree murder, in the sense that someone guilty of this offense can expect a more lenient sentence, often with imprisonment time comparable to manslaughter. U.S. states all define negligent homicide by statute. In some, the offense includes the killing of another while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Examples of such cases include the crash of Aeroperu Flight 603 near Lima, Peru. The engineer who put the tape while cleaning the ill-fated Boeing 757 was convicted of negligent homicide after he forgot to take the masking tape (which was normally unused while cleaning airplanes) off.
We are still trying for an absolute last word on whether or not you need a 1st Aid (or CPR for that matter -if she knew CPR why was she waiting to call 911 and being walked through it?) but whether or not AART insist upon it, the State Of California absolutely insists upon it for therapists who work with children.
If Jennifer Chiba knew 1st Aid she is guilty of criminal negligent homicide in the death of Elliott Smith. She knew what the result of removing the knife would be. It has been six years. What is the LAPD waiting for? Subpeona her and find out the truth.
Let me repeat: Chiba can not have known First Aid and be not guilty. If she knew it, she is guilty. And while I am not ready to go on the record as saying she knew 1st aid, I am very very close.
Why are the LAPD not looking at the people Chiba worked with? Were there children involved? If there were she would have to have known First Aid per Calfornia law.
For right this second one thing is clear: Elliott Smith may have attempted suicide, but he couldn’t have committed it without Jennifer Chiba’s intervention.
He did not kill himself.
