Trent Reznor does not want you to buy the last re-issue of Nine Inch Nails’ album ‘Pretty Hate machine’. A subsidiary of Universal music re-released the 1989 debut album, without any re-mastering, and Trent threw a few tweets about it on July 14th:
‘NIN fans, don't waste your money on this version of PHM that was just released: http://www.nincatalog.com/item.asp?key=01-00275’
‘… a record label bullshit move repackaging the old version. Ignore please.’
It’s a bold and honest move, going against the evil label trying to get more money from NIN’s fans without doing any work!
In fact, the album had already been reissued by Rykodisc Records in 2005, and Reznor struggled to get the masters from them. This is what he said at the time: "UMe and Bicycle Music Group managed to locate the original mixes, so I went in the studio with Tom Baker and remastered it for a greatly improved sonic experience. In addition, Rob reinterpreted Gary Talpas’ original cover to make for a fresh new package’.
And Reznor released a remastered version of the album in November 2010 via Bicycle Music Company with a new cover art and a cover of the Queen’s song ‘Get Down, Make Love’, so there was no need for this new re-issue!
