Tom Petty and Vampire Weekend: Two Big Concerts I'm Gonna Give The Miss

Moving into my fifth year at rock nyc I can feel the time catching up with me. In 2012 I saw more concerts than ever before but in 2013 between my age and the weather and he timing, I am slowing down… and here is a sign of the times for you. Two big concerts go on sale this week and I plan to pass on both of them.

Tom Petty I have seen several times live and I have never been overly impressed. I would claim that of all the classic rockers I've had the least time for him and while entire albums have enthralled me, they haven't enthralled me in a long time. The last time I saw Petty on stage was maybe six years ago at Prudential and he played a sleepy set of blues droners before rolling out the hits and the end. he was a straight drag.. Maybe worse? A gig at MSG in the early naughts where Jackson Browne blew him so far off stage it wasn't remotely amusing.

Still, I had planned to pick up a tix to the beacon May 20th for a week residency and got so busy at work I forgot to try and by the time I got there the entire week was sold out. The cheapest stubhub tix was $194 plus etcs, and you know what? I'm gonna pass.

The Vampire Weekend concert is a set of different problems. The last time I saw the band was 2010 and I loved them , plus both songs on the new album I've liked loads as well. Soooo, why the coyness you ask? I'll tell ya: SUNDAY, April 28th at ROSELAND.

So the weekend would look like this:

Friday – Fabulous and Pusha T

Saturday – Billy Bragg

Sunday – Vampire weekend

OK, that's a busy weekend, right. Maybe I could dump Bragg but he is t the Town Hall so at least it's a seat and an early evening.'

But I might, maybe, if Vampire Weekend was at the Beacon or Radio City or something. But Roseland? really, I wanna drag myself out ona Sunday night after spending the weekend at gigs any wy to see the back of college kids heads for two hours?

I don't think so.
