A major fraud is being perpetrated against the people of New York City by Ticketmaster And Ticket Brokers and the city is doing nothing to stop it.
Recently, Bruce Springsteen tickets in the Tri-State area went on sale and the average consumer had no opportunity to buy them. This was because Ticket broker had software which broke Ticketmaster's ridiculous security code and bought them before the average person had managed to click two please.
TM apologized, Springsteen apologized, nothing changed.
As the editor of a music blog, I have reason to go to many concerts. It is infuriating to discover concerts sold out the moment they go on sale, even on presales. And it happens every day. Why? By the time I have typed in the security code, ticket brokers have bought them all. Instananeously, I can go on to Fanscape and finds 100s of tickets for sale at 10 times the price.
This is Ticketmasters problem and it is the Government;'s Consumer Complains who should deal with it.
Imagine for one mioment that instead of buying tickets from Ticketmasterm they were stealing tickets from Ticketmaster. TM would close down shop until they found a solution. The truth is, what does TM? Indeed, they have their own broker company Ticketsnow.
Whoever licenses Ticketmaster has a responsibility to do some or all of the following.
1. Revoke Ticketmaster's licencse to sell tickets until they fix the software problem once and for all.
2. Force venues to hold a percentage of tickets to sell themselves directly to consumers.
It is enough. If there is a consumer advocate, why aren't they doing their job?
