Through A Scanners darkly by Helen Bach

London band Scanners feature Sarah Daley on bass and vocals just like me! And  what a beautiful and haunting melody on their song ‘Salvation’. Its almost Patti Smith with class.

I absolutely hate girl bands or even most girl singers but there is something trance like and old school feeling about this song. Moody without being contrived. Even when the high notes are sung with force the vocals stay pure.

Description? Siouxie-esque in its Gothic tone, Patti Smith in its grunge art school vibe yet still uniquely different.

So many contradictions involved here conjuring up 80s darkness with 2010s hope.

I should hate this.

I took another hit with the song  ‘Lowlife  I was ready to call Scanners a one song appeal but “Lowlife” is more Siouxie, less Patti… more depth,  great rhythm. A bit screechy. But the chorus is amazing. I feel her voice and as much as I expect it to be annoying chick crap……it is magnificent and pure. Harmonies to die for strong yet not bad ass.

Whoa.

I’m blown away.

My God , what’s happening to me. If that’s the sound of my mind opening to the prospect of a girl vocal added to my elite membership, well I think I found it. I’m stunned.
